EnergyQuest - Catawba Nuclear Station

EnergyQuest, the information center for Duke Power Co.'s Catawba Nuclear Station, aids the public's understanding of nuclear power and the engineering that goes into them in a fun, yet educational, way. Touch-screen computer terminals use video games to teach about electricity, energy, nuclear fission, and nuclear power generation. Visitors can also see a film presentation and observe nuclear operators practice in a control room that simulates the one at the power station.

Fun Fact:The first large-scale nuclear power plant in the U.S. devoted exclusively to generating electricity was built for the federal government in 1957 in Shippingport, Pa., by Westinghouse and the Duquesne Light Company. The experimental plant, which cost $110 million to build, proved that weapons could be turned into plowshares.
