About Us

DiscoverE

We are the E in STEM®

We are DiscoverE (formerly the National Engineers Week Foundation).

We help unite, mobilize, and support the engineering and technology volunteer communities. Why? They will increase their collaborative footprint in K-12 education and celebrate with the public as it discovers the value of engineering education and careers.

Who We Are

The Coalition

Our coalition is comprised of stakeholders in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. They are active drivers of and participants in DiscoverE programs, representing industry, government, associations, and academe. Most importantly, together we have built enduring relationships leading to the strong collaborative model we have today.

  • Leadership Council

Our Leadership Council is invested and experienced in STEM outreach. Members value DiscoverE’s leveraged and holistic approach. They network and advise on education and workforce needs where DiscoverE can help make a difference. Their contributions also help provide DiscoverE materials and resources for many volunteer organizations.

    Corporate Partners

Discover E is proud to have enduring relationships with our corporate partners. There are three levels at which our partners participate:

    Corporate Affiliates

These partners participate in Discover E programs to recognize the value of their engineering and technology employees and to inform and inspire future generations of talent.

    Corporate Contributors

    Steering Committee

Our Steering Committee of engineering societies and public agency partners guides development and implementation of DiscoverE programs and resources and engages thousands of volunteers.

    Our Team

DiscoverE is a service organization dedicated to people and its partners. Each staff member touches each and every program and is dedicated to building enduring relationships with our partners.

    • Leslie Collins is Executive Director. She created the DiscoverE outreach campaign (1990) which led to an activist volunteer outreach movement and has evolved into the new organizational name. She also created Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day and Global Marathon For, By and About Women in Engineering & Technology.
    • Maggie Dressel is the Program Manager of the Future City Competition.  She leads program expansion and oversees the annual Finals.
    • Taryn Egelanian is Programs Manager.  She develops, plans and implements resources, partnerships and outreach for several DiscoverE programs.
    • Gwen Hearn is Outreach Coordinator.  She is the main administrator of volunteer outreach for the upcoming film Dream Big: Engineering Our World.
    • Karen Kuhn is Director of Operations.  She oversees the day-to-day operation of DiscoverE.
    • Ellen Robinson is Online Community Manager.  She manages DiscoverE's social media platforms and campaigns and conducts online trainings.
    • Thea Sahr is Director of Programs.  She develops programs, resources, and trainings for volunteers and educators to engage students in engineering.  Most recently she led the design and development of our new Website and the DiscoverE brand launch.
    • Sayles & Winnikoff Communications drives local and national consumer publicity, corporate public relations, and some social media for DiscoverE.
    • Jake Williams is Program Coordinator of the Future City Competition.  He supports regional coordinators and assists with Finals.
